March is hopping at Giants Ridge!

The calendar tells me that Easter is in March this year, and much like the Easter Bunny, Giants Ridge will be hopping with great events for the whole family!

March is typically one of the snowiest months in northern Minnesota and though we haven’t had a big storm for some time, we still have over 58 inches of natural snowfall to date. Snow conditions across the Iron Range are terrific. Plus, the forecast is indicating that we’re going to see some snowfall over the course of the next seven days, so it’ll freshen up all the trails at Giants Ridge & across the Iron Range.

The annual Spring Carnival at Giants Ridge is one of the greatest events on the Iron Range. This year, Spring Carnival will be held on three weekends – March 15 & 16, 22 & 23 and 29 & 30. Enjoy live entertainment, games, our popular slush cup (which promises to be bigger and better than ever before) and loads of other fun.

Here’s the skinny on the events that are scheduled for the month of March at Giants Ridge:

March 1               The New Antiques (Matt Johnson, Than Tibbets, Bill Durbin), Live Entertainment
March 1 - 2         Alpine Ski Challenge
March 7 - 9         Midwest Race League - Alpine Ski Challenge
March 8               Ol’ Yeller (Rich Mattson & Mark Saari Duo), Live Entertainment
March 10 - 21     College Days
March 15             Sara Softich & Jason Wussow, Live Entertainment
March 15 - 16     Spring Carnival: Slush Cup & Wig-Out Weekend
March 22             Joe Gibbon, Live Entertainment
March 22 - 23     Spring Carnival: Easter Family Fun Extravaganza
March 29             Wheeler Dealers (Rob Wheeler & Marty Halverson), Live Entertainment
March 29 - 30     Spring Carnival: Season Pass Holder Appreciation Weekend

If you’re planning to make the trip to the Iron Range for a family getaway, be sure to bring your camera. Upload photos and video of your visit here.

I’ll see you on the slopes!

Until then, be sure to check back for updated Iron Range snow conditions, ski reports and more.

A flurry of events on the Iron Range

Well, we’ve got some pretty big events coming up at Giants Ridge late this week, with both the Minnesota State High School League Alpine and Cross Country Championships. Plus, there’s entertainment planned for the weekend with Joe Gibbon in the Pine Cone Bar & Grille in the Giants Ridge Ski Chalet. On Saturday, the 16th, and Sunday, the 17th, we’ll also play host to the NCAA Midwest Regional Cross Country Championships. The Giants Ridge Free Ride Group will also be out here (at the Ridge) on the 17th.

The month of February at Giants Ridge is full of great events. And, let me tell you, the conditions are absolutely superb. From the looks of the forecast this morning, Old Man Winter is also making his way to the event .

While we’ve have rather mild temps over the course of the season (so far), Saturday looks to be a different story! With expected highs barely breaking zero, it’s going to be chilly at the start of the race. Continue reading ‘Preparing for the Challenge – the Pepsi Challenge!’
