Jeep Terrain Park Challenge this weekend

This weekend at the Ridge, we’ll play host to the Jeep Terrain Park Challenge.

The Jeep Terrain Park Challenge is a progressive grassroots program in its third year of promoting safety and responsibility at terrain parks.

We’ll host a safety clinic and competition for skiers and snowboarders here at Giants Ridge on Saturday (Feb 2) from about 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Here’s a little more info about the Jeep Terrain Park Challenge, courtesy of the Mesabi Daily News:

According to a press release from the organization, terrain parks are “one of the nation’s newest and fastest growing trends, pushing skiing and snowboarding to the extreme as riders navigate through a series of pipes, rails, tabletops and other obstacles, while pulling off tricks or getting air.”

But with increased popularity comes a greater risk of injury to both beginners and experts as they push for big air or attempt extreme stunts.

Together with the Rossignol Demo Team, the Jeep Terrain Park Challenge will utilize the National Ski Area Association’s world class Smart Style program to emphasize awareness of surroundings, knowing one’s limits, and respecting other riders.

“It’s well known that there is a surplus of talented skiers and snowboarders in the Minnesota area,” said Kate Danaher, Director of the Terrain Park Challenge. “We’re thrilled that this event will allow them to meet at Giants Ridge to showcase their skills while also learning the latest in terrain park safety.”

After the safety clinic, participants will have an opportunity to compete for prizes, including DVDs, magazines, T-shirts and hats. Challenge sponsors will also give away prizes.
